Nowadays we look back at Victorian capitalists like Vanderbilt or Morgan in a pretty negative light. "Robber Barons", etc. But at the time, did they have "fans" like Elon Musk does today? Were they as visible in the media as people like Musk or Bezos are today?

They were absolutely visible in the media and they absolutely had followers. Until someone with the proper flair comes along and posts something with footnotes, you want to do some searching on what the "Society Pages" were, what entire sections in the top newspapers used to list about who was coming to town on what steamship or was giving a coming-out ball or showed up at what gala and what they wore/served/ate.
