Did Alaska and Hawaii receive any opposition from becoming states before they were made into states?

There is a passionate Hawaiian Sovereignty movement that exists to this day. I lived there during the 100th anniversary of annexation and many people there still feel like it was stolen by America, though many feel that had America not taken it, the British would have. The day of the anniversary, lots of people wore black to school to to represent solidarity.
