Who invented the historically terrible title, "Byzantine Empire?" And when?

I've always assumed it was Western European historians who couldn't accept the fact that the Roman Empire continued for centuries after the Western Roman Empire fell.

That's pretty much the reason, yeah...it was invented by a guy named Hieronymus Wolf in the 16th century. I wrote about how this happened in a previous answer: Why is it called the Byzantine Empire when the city was known as Constantinople for centuries longer than it was called Byzantium?
