Have there been any pre planned cities in history that have been accepted as successful. From either scratch or the redevelopment of an existing city. I ask after recently visiting Coventry in the UK. The centre was destroyed during WW2 and rebuilt into what was hoped would be an urban utopia.
There are many examples of planned cities and reconstructed cities that might be considered “successful”. The problem is historians generally don’t make those sort of judgments.
I take it you see the postwar redevelopment of Coventry as failing to live up to its high hopes. What are the reasons for you thinking that? I can perhaps give an explanation of why certain decisions were made if that would be of interest to you.
