[META] Has a break happened between AskHistorians and AskAnthropology?

by BaffledPlato

Every so often a question will pop up that seems more suited towards anthropologists than historians, so I recommend OP to AskAnthropology.

Here is an example from a month ago.

I've also seen mods and others recommend that sub in the past, so I was by no means alone in doing this, but today when I recommended it my post was removed.

So should AskAnthropology no longer be recommended? What happened to them?

Hi there - there's no break with r/AskAnthropology, and we do still recommend it for various questions better suited for them. However, we do usually remove user-generated recommendations to check out alternative subreddits as clutter, unless they are part of a more substantive response (ie something along the lines of 'well, here's what history can tell us about this question, but for a different perspective you may also want to ask somewhere else'.

To be clear, we don't treat such posts as rulebreaking or issue warnings for them - they tend, after all, to be efforts to be helpful - but such is the nature of Reddit's comment visibility that we need to keep threads as clear as possible of everything which isn't answers.
