There are a number of them over on the Booklist, including Alan Taylor's recent American Revolutions, which wisely starts the story with the French and Indian War. It was that conflict which gave a lot of colonists experience in warfare, including George Washington, gave England new territory in the north , and created expenses which England expected the Colonies to pay- while denying them the Native lands in the West they expected to move into.
If you want something less focused on political aspects and more on the actual campaigns, I still like Don Higginbotham's The War for American Independence. It's well-written and used copies abound- though, as with any often-required course reading, used copies will also tend to be filled with highlighter and underlined sentences.
