Did ancient mothers clean their water with alcohol while pregnant and breastfeeding? Are we all fetal alcohol descendants?

Most certainly not for your first question. The thought that pre-modern peoples drank alcohol because of unclean or unsafe water is a myth, one which it is my life's work to kill. My main post on the matter is largely concerned with the Middle Ages, but many of the same considerations apply in other ages.
