The order to use the black tape with gold "US ARMY" came on 27 Oct 1953. The white name tape with black letters was initially a local commander directive in Korea in the early 50s and later Army-wide.

On 14 July 1966, the regulation was changed so that both tapes would be OG-107 olive green with black letters.
