Were the Tiananmen Square protests peaceful?

by ToxicLike

From the sources I've seen, they appear to be peaceful, though my teacher claims there has been evidence 'somewhere' that proves that citizens protested in disrespectful/violent manner, any sources/answers you guys know of that proves this?

Thanks!

Here are some relevant comments from AskHistorians.

This one by u/yodatsracist mentions in a quote from a western sociologist who was in China at the time that arson attacks occurred in "cities around China" during the protests.

Here is another comment by u/SickHobbit which mentions soldiers being pelted with stones and beaten. Later on SickHobbit states that officers in the 38th Army Group were lynched by civilians after shooting women and children.
