There have been many great answers about all things related to December holidays, but for the life of me I can't find most of the ones i remember reading.
Would our highly talented FAQ Finders consider making a holiday bestof post featuring answers about Christmas, Yule, saturnalia, Hanakuh, Kwanzaa,etc?
I’m not technically one of our glorious FAQ Finders, but I can lend a hand here. I’ve put aside a number of Holiday threads over the years, although this is far from complete. I’m also a bit unorganized this morning as I whip this up between different jobs, so its not quite as neat and categorized as I would like.
Starting off with Hannukah;
Last year there was an open thread for people to write about the 'secrets of your holiday traditions', which got some great answers, such as:
I'll see what more I can dig up, but it seems like Gankom (who as an orange flair and digester I think definitely qualifies as a faq-finder, despite claiming technicalities against it) has already done a pretty great job at it.
Wow, amazing work, /u/Gankom! This is "best of" material in and of itself!
Three more of mine that were missed:
"How Was Santa Claus Interpreted By Black Communities?". The answer starts in Part 2 of the three-part post. Part 1 was repeated in one of my answers that Gankom already linked to, and addresses the myth that Coca-Cola invented the Santa Claus image.
While not directly holiday-related, my answer to "In the film "Django Unchained" Django uses a snowman for target practice. Are snowmen actually things people would make during the 1850s or was it just used in the film as an artistic liberty?" gives a rundown of the history of snowmen in Europe and the United States. This may also be of interest in the coming months.
EDIT: added another.
