The Justinian plague

by MorePresence3134

I am looking for primary sources about the Justinian plague. It would be nice if you could link to it as well :) I am already familiar with the work of Procopius.

Anything related to how the plague might have effected the Byzantine civilisation (long term and short term) might be interesting as well

Thx!

Two other typical sources are John of Ephesus and Evagrius Scholasticus.

Additional short Syriac sources are listed in Morony’s paper in:

  • Little, Lester K., and D. M. Walsh. "Plague and the End of Antiquity: The Pandemic of 541-750." ISIS 98.4 (2007): 891.

A number of other shorter sources and mentions are detailed in several of the other papers in this volume, as are potential long-term effects. Though there is limited consensus on the East Roman trajectory during the sixth century.
