Don't know I this is the right place to ask, but here we go:
As a Bosnian I have always been fascinated how some things exists in Bosnia due to how isolated it have been. Rough terrain and not a lot of historical importance apart from always being part of an empire over the centuries.
Yet when it comes to the food and for example card games it has some very fascinating connections to other countries.
Cakes like:
Qurabiya - Wikipedia - Gurabija in bosnian
Pogača - Wikipedia - Pogaca in bosnian
or Card games like:
Belote - Wikipedia - Bela
Rummy - Wikipedia - Remi
Ramsen (card game) - Wikipedia - Raub
Are there books which talks about and also give examples of how some games or foods got spread. I know that stories have a similar ability to travel but that for me is easier to understand than games and food which has a bit more effort into it?
This is my first non-conference answer, so do let me know if I'm not hitting all of the rules or I'm missing something. Anyhow, this isn't my area of expertise, but I have read a few books on the subject that I can strongly recommend. Obviously, the Silk Road has a huge body of scholarly work that focuses directly on what you're asking about, and that's where most of my reading has been recently.
To that end, I really recommend:
Susan Whitfield, Silk, Slaves, and Stupas (University of California Press: Berkeley 2018).
Susan Whitfield, Life Along the Silk Roads (University of California Press: Oakland, 2015).
Both of these books examine a number of cultural exchanges that took place during the 700s-900s CE. This means an examination of groups like the Sogdians, Tibetans, and the Uyghurs, while also analyzing their cultural impacts. A lot of emphasis is placed on the city of Dunhuang, which embodies a number of these exchanges in this time. That said, the books do examine other places. Life Along the Silk Roads takes this a step further by creating pseudo-narratives based on research Whitfield and others have done, so we're really given a beautiful description of life in this era and the changes that were coming.
