ROC's economic miracle was a direct result of the "communist threat." The "threat" forced the US to allow a Bonapartist government to exercise a degree of self-determination necessary for economic development.

Losing the mainland incentivized the KMT to build Taiwan into a model province for China. It wasn't socialism, but it was a planned economy, albeit a capitalist one. TSMC is a great example.
