Why didn't Turkey try to support the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus to become an independent sovereign nation after its creation ?

Why did Turkey treat the NC as a puppet/dependency instead of trying to support it to be more independent ? It seems that the turkish gov. Was satisfied with the current situation, but why didn't they let/help NC be more independent and sovereign/self sufficient ? So they could have developed their own policies, military and economy (with turkish support), Try to evolve like israel did ? I understand that mainly western reluctance due to greece would made recognition of NC almost impossible.

All that aside, did the NC have a chance to be more sovereign and independent ?

Because Turkey never intended NC to be independent. The entity that governs the North of island today is called 'Kuzey Kıbrıs Türk Cumhuriyeti' or 'Turkish Republic of North Cyprus'. But entity that was created in 1975 after Operation Attila wasn't named so. It was first called 'Autonomous Turkish Cypriot Administration'. Then it was changed to 'Turkish Federated State of Cyprus'. The implication being that the island would be joined together eventually as a confederation. Turkey did also support the potential confederation if the 2002 referendum was successful.

This federated state became TRNC is 15 October 1983. This declaration happened in large part through the initiative of the Turkish Cypriots. It also took place a few weeks after the 6 November 1983 elections in Turkey. The first election since the coup in 1980. It was a rather controversial period in Turkey.

The idea of partition of the island or Taksim is in large parts a Turkish Cypriot idea. It is a reaction to Greek Cypriot push for reunification eonosis, and also to the fate of Cretan Turks after Cretan eonosis.
