Books or essays in the history if liberalism in the German speaking countries?

by Mpomposs

I just read an essay by Ludwig von Mises titled "The historical setting of the Austrian school of economics" which talks about the first generation of Austrian economists Wieser, Bawerk, Menger. The author also mentions a lot Liberalism in Germany and Austria at the time. What are some good resources that talk about the history of liberalism in the German speaking world?

The standard survey is Dieter Langewiesche's Liberalism in Germany and upends some of the conventional notions of German liberalism found in older works like von Mises. One of these older works is James Sheehan's German Liberalism in the Nineteenth Century and it is worth reading both in tandem.
