like podcasts or something
learned about it in high school and university would like to know more
heard a few askhistorian podcasts about it but not enough
A few reputable sources:
The AskHistorians podcast has several excellent episodes, including with one of my favorite AH posters, /u/Freedmanspatrol . (EDIT: just saw you mentioned this LOL)
Princeton professor Matt Karp, author of This Vast Southern Empire, is extremely online and has been on several podcasts and at least one youtube channel. I’d search for him in whatever podcatcher you use and see if there’s a topic which interests you. James McPherson too has several very good lectures available in podcast form.
If you are interested in longer format, there are several very good academic history books available now in audiobook form, including Battle Cry of Freedom, This Vast Southern Empire, The Impending Crisis, The Second Founding, Reconstruction: America’s Unfinished Revolution, Empire of Cotton, and War on the Waters. If you want help accessing these books, DM me and I can see what I can do depending on your location/situation.
EDIT 2: Also, it’s less academic but I’m pleasantly surprised by the Radio War Nerd series on the Civil War. Since you asked for podcasts specifically, maybe check them out. They might be behind a $5 paywall, but its not a bad deal and they are pretty good about citing their sources.
For books Booklist/Americas/North America/United States/Civil War Era has plenty
