Is there any exhaustive list of Graffitis in Pompei ?

by hallavar

Hello dear historian. Today I came accross a very interesting fact. I've learned that the walls of the ancient city of Pompei are covered with readable and understandable Antic graffitis.

I found some English translations of some of these on the internet, but I'm not sure if the list is valid, or if it is just a troll.

I don't know if an archeologist has done a compilation of all the juicy messages that we can read..

Thank you in advance.

The Pompeiian graffiti are published in a variety of places, but most of them are in the Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum (CIL). The CIL is quite difficult to navigate (or even access) if you're not a specialist, and the various databases require a certain amount of training to use. The largest and most up-to-date repository of graffiti from the Bay of Naples area (or at least...the most convenient to use and the most accessible) is the Ancient Graffiti Project (AGP).

NB: The vast majority of graffiti at Pompeii are just drawings or maybe a couple letters. Many have never been published except as a simple note in an edition somewhere, and many others which were published are no longer extant due to degradation over time. Also, as has historically been typical in classical epigraphy, most of the entries in the AGP database are not translated.
