Was Thomas Edison really as terrible as people claim he was?

Honestly all this time all I ever heard was that Edison was a their and cruel businessman who destroyed Teslas career as an inventor for profit and stole inventions form many and claimed them as their own. Is this all true and was he really this evil person most people see him as.

The Tesla-Edison question comes up here from time to time. u/Wotan_Weevil debunked a good bit of the mythology of the real inventors here

You might notice that whenever someone is making a case for Edison as terrible, they are usually also making a case for Tesla being wonderful. The easiest way to make Tesla a tragic hero is to make Edison an evil villain. If you read a good biography of both, you will find that they were neither.
