In his book On the Sensation of Tone Helmholtz charted the results of the measurment of "A" ( nominally 440 Hz) on a number of famous old pipe organs throughout Europe. There was quite a variation. Since many of these fine instruments sadly no longer exist we can only image what they sounded like.
