In a poem in the Satires, Horace says he can't wait to get home and eat a dish of chickpeas, leeks, and lagana. Was lagana an ancient Roman version of Pasta? More like a Lasagne? More like fried bread? Do we know what it was?

Lagana (λαγάνα, also known as Lasanum by Romans or Tracta in ancient Greek), is a traditional Greek unleavened flatbread - Aristophanes also references the dish in his 5 BCE written work l’eccliaste. Today, this bread is associated with Greek Orthodox lent. There are actually plenty of recipes for it online, and is the origin for the word lasagna.
