by j157ke

I am german myself and i want to find more poetry from german soldiers.I like the idea of humanizing the young soldiers who were forced to serve and left with no choice even tough they did not support the cause. Im looking for poetry from world war 1 and 2 in german but it is very hard to find legit poems.

There's Georg Trakl, who was in World War I. When I was in my second year of German, his poem Grodek was one of the hardest poems I had to decipher. At least some of his poems are here: http://www.textkritik.de/trakl/trakl.htm

On the other hand, Wolfgang Borchert was very easy. His Draussen vor der Tür was something that people watched in Berlin , in the unheated theaters right after WW2, and his Sag Nein! is still a great anti-war piece. I liked his poems, also, but perhaps they are too simple for a native speaker.
