Were there any African American soldiers who survived capture by Confederate forces? Or were they all executed by the Confederacy upon capture?

There is no written historical information as to any former Negro Slaves fighting on the Union surviving for any length of time after capture.

A written record by a former Confederate Soldier stated the Confederates wanted to make an example by executing captured ex-slaves fighting for Union forces by immediate lynching, the preferred method of execution.

The term African American Soldier was not used during the Civil War. The term ex-slave was the term used.
