What was the international reaction to prohibition in the USA?

Temperance was actually an international movement. Norway, Sweden, Iceland, and Finland all banned or heavily restricted alcohol around the same time as the US (1915-1919), and in many other countries alcohol controls of one kind or another were enacted (partly related to, or at least justified as, WWI measures). The temperance movements were strong in the UK - although the failure of Prohibition in the US to control alcohol consumption and organized crime all but ended the movement to legally ban alcohol in the UK. In many other countries, however, temperance focused on social rather than political change, due to the reliance of many countries' budgets on alcohol excises.
