Anything from websites to books to documentaries are welcome! I'm aware I'm casting a wide net here, but I'd love some help. I'm really interested in the whole era in general, but I'd love to focus more on the cultural/social side of things.
Can you narrow down your focus a little more? is there a particular aspect of medieval history that you're drawn to? England for example, or women's history, or medicine in the Middle Ages?
Since you're already looking through our booklist, here are a few podcasts that have good episodes about medieval topics.
In Our Time: History. The host Melvynn Bragg brings on academics to discuss their expertise in a very accessible way. Medieval history isn't the only period covered, but there are definitely good medieval episodes. Bragg has a lot of cultural cache in the UK so he can get on some really high-profile academic guests.
The Medieval Podcast. Danièle Cybulskie tackles all sorts of different topics in medieval history here, especially a lot about social and cultural history. She also offers commentary on medievalism, or the use of the Middle Ages in pop culture. Medievalists.net, the host of her podcast, also runs another one called the Medieval Grad Podcast.
The AskHistorians Podcast. Here at AH we have our own podcast! Like In Our Time, this one isn't limited to medieval history, but there are lots of great episodes about medieval topics. Recent episodes about medieval topics include mine about Women of 1000 AD, one by u/Steelcan909 about Norse religion(s), and one on women in medieval warfare by u/Hergrim.
Historian Ruth Goodman's How to be a Tudor - A Dawn-to-Dusk Guide to Tudor Life covers a lot of interesting aspect about the culture, every day life and social structure in the late medieval period in England. It does go a bit beyond the middle ages into the early modern period/1600s though.
