I was wondering if there's a modern book that is basically a catalogue of medieval sword, preferably 2 handed ones? I'm drawing a medieval piece and need real life references.
The standard references on this subject are by Ewart Oakeshott: Records of the Medieval Sword or The Sword in the Age of Chivalry would both be solid choices. His general approach is based on classifying by visual style, so it can be useful for this sort of thing but doesn't necessarily go much into depth about use and weight. His data is also sometimes a bit off.
My personal favourite is Das Schwert - Gestalt und Gedanke, edited by Peter Johnsson, Sixt Wetzler et al. This is the catalogue of a museum exhibition curated at the Solingen Klingenmuseum in 2015, and has extremely detailed photographs and drawings of every sword in the exhibition, along with a number of very helpful essays discussion sword design and typology. It's bilingual in both English and German, so all the detail you want will be easy to get.
Generally museum catalogues are another good place to look. The Wallace Collection in London has an excellent online catalogue, so does the Royal Armouries in Leeds and the Art Institute in Chicago - and many other places besides. All three have some interesting two handed swords in their collections you'll be able to find details on by looking there.
