This topic has been asked many times before. Ultimately, the concept of skin colour as a signifier of a particular social grouping is largely a modern construct, and ancient Egypt occupied a sort of cultural crossroads between Africa and the Levant (and later, Greece) so that people who called themselves Egyptians came from a wide geographical area.
