What other symbols that were appropriated by the Third Reich and its ideology?

by andros_megabreak

Of course, the swastika that symbols good luck and other spiritual meanings is the most famous one. But I just knew that the orange-white-blue tricolour of the Netherlands was also not used because it was used by the nazis in NL. The country now used the current red-white-blue horizontal tricolor flag.

What are other things that they stole that makes it bad but it doesn't have anything to do with nazis?

Sorry for grammatical errors.

The stealing part is a little overstatement all these symbols were in the "public domain" free to be used by anybody, the more accurate word would be to disgust them for the future generations.

Most famously the Celtic cross - interestingly another pagan symbol of the sun, this time celtic but also slavic.

Everything skinhead related, especially bald heads and white shoelaces. Skinhead used to be a British working class subculture like any other but as we know it changed.

Nordic runes were frequently used as insignia of german panzer battalions as well as the infamous SS.

Skull insignia - this one is rather controversial because this symbol wasn't so pure in the first place. Used by german hussars as well as the polish XX century "hussars of death" (not to confuse with the XVII century polish hussars, famous for their wings). Appropriated as the SS symbol.

The length of this list is determined by what you consider the ideology of the Third Reich. Neo-nazis are famous for having plenty of symbols. For them, we have this site though as you will see lots of the entries are a bit of an overstatement.

As for the original nazi symbols, we have the Blutfahne - the NSDAP artifact - a swastica flag carried during the Beer Hall Putsch and soaked with the blood of the SA member who died during the event. Became something of a sacred symbol of martyrdom.

If you're interested in them I can write more about those symbols as well.
