I want to do more reading about the rulers of the Spanish and Austrian branches of the Habsburg empire. I own books that cover English/British rulers as individuals. Are there any book recommendations that cover the Habsburgs in the same way? All I can find are books that cover them in a broad manner in the context of a historical event.
Im looking for a book like this The Lives of the Kings and Queens of England, Revised and Updated https://a.co/d/5xChhOJ
Thank you!
There's an unfortunate dearth in Habsburg biographies, at least in English. From what I've seen, there's more available in German, and I don't think there's an equivalent resource to what you linked there. However, if you're interested in Habsburg biography, then a relatively recent work which might be of interest to you is Geoffrey Parker's Emperor: A New Life of Charles V. Parker also has a similar book, Imprudent King: A New Life of Philip II. Both of these are biographies focusing on key Habsburg monarchs, perhaps some of the most well known ones, and would probably give you the kind of in depth view on individual monarchs you're looking for. Hope this helps!
