Hey All,
There seem to be multiple versions online, some seemingly much shorter than others. The 360-page version is cheap and available, but I feel it might be foolish to read an abridged version of such a seminal work? Assuming I want a more comprehensive version, can anyone direct me as to where I might acquire the three volume version?
All help is greatly appreciated, thanks.
I was assigned the abridged version in grad school and turned out fine; I only read the full version later on after I finished my Ph.D. and this subject became my full-time job. If you're just trying to get a general overview of the history/historiography, the abridged version is probably fine. I'm certainly not going to tell you not to read the full version if you've got the time, just that you can get the gist of it for a non-specialist from the abridged version.
