US and Pakistan were major allies during the Cole War. However, US suspended military aid when the 1965 Indo-Pakistani War broke out. Was there a clause in the alliance forbidding war with India?

I get the question is a mess, but I couldn't word it better. Was watching a talk on US-Pakistani relations by a former Pakistani ambassador and he said (at around minute 15) that US-Pakistani alliance clearly outlined not going to war with India and that's why US suspended the aid. Is this true?

Hmm. If I be honest, US and UK were both supplying weaponry to both countries. Maybe it was to avoid putting themselves in an awkward position, like it was in US with Israel and Middle East?

This caused Pakistan to look east for support, which became Beijing then (which is one of the reasons why Delhi and Beijing have a frosty relation).

To be honest, this war happened because a pressure cooker had to burst. And also it was ripe for Pakistan, as India was weakened by the 1962 war, and now Lal Bahadur Shastriji had to rearm India. Quite interesting though, that after signing the Tashkent Declaration, he shortly died afterwards.

This war is extremely shrouded in secrecy in my opinion. Rather, the most 'spicy' war between the two was 1971.
