I had this idea to learn about the Cold War, WWI, WWII by actually immersing in the world and experience it myself. But as far as I know (or have searched) there are no war games in first person view that have close-to-real historical accuracy- or are there?
The Canadian War Museum has a WW2 "game" called "Over the Top". It's more of a choose-your-own-adventure story than a game though. You play a soldier in the trenches in France.

I found another WW2 game, Attentat 1942, which was developed by a game company that includes faculty and students of Charles University, in the Czech Republic. It also seems to be a story you click through, but I haven't played it myself. This one is from the perspective of a victim of the German occupation, and includes real life video clips and interviews with survivors.
