I was doing some research on famous old west outlaws and noticed that many of them were from the rural south, which I know was settled in large part by poor Scotch-Irish immigrants. Did the cattle raiding traditions of those two cultures lead to their descendants in the Americas holding up that tradition? Did it lead directly to our almost mythologized stories of their exploits? I posted this question a couple of months ago, but never got any answers, and I was hoping for better luck this time.
