Did India offer the colonies war elephants during the American Revolution?

My AP US history teacher told us that India offered the colonies war elephants during their fight for independence, but I have not been able to confirm this. Did this happen?

'India' did not exist during the US Independece war. At the time, the British and French were competing to increase their influence in the subcontinent, while conquering native states. Powerful native rulers, such as Tipu Sultan, the Marathas and the Sikh states existed among British colonies such as Bengal. The once-powerful Mughals were rapidly declining. None of these states were in a condition to send elephants to the USA. If you could clarify which state was meant to have sent the elephants, it would be nice.
