I am at a cross roads where I recently left my faith. I was taught my whole life things about Jesus from the Bible. I was curious what historians say about him.
The historical consensus is that there was indeed a Jesus who existed. In fact, by the standards of evidence we have for figures of his time, we have much better documentary evidence for Jesus than we have of most other people. (Most especially Gisgo the Carthaginian, to name one particularly notable figure.)
There is always more that can be said, but as this is a recurring topic, I commend to your attention the appropriate section of the FAQ. Please note that any miracle business Jesus may have done is not in the province of history, and any miracle-related inquiries are best made to the Theology department over in the other building.
