I looked through the recommended reading list, but nothing seemed to quite fit. I'm interested in religion, social structure, and daily life - particularly the lives of women. I'm no scholar, so the easier to digest, the better. Thank you!
I would recommend Barry Cunliffe's Britain Begins which covers Prehistoric Britain until the Norman Invasion, though the book is more detailed on the earlier parts and peters off towards the end. Cunliffe is a very respected scholar in his field and this book is beginner friendly with a lot of illustrated images. It's a great overview of this time period and Cunliffe gives sources and recommendations for other books for you to dive into.
I'd also suggest the works of Francis Pryor who is a renowned British archaeologist. He has a lot of work on Iron Age Britain and he routinely appears in a lot TV series and documentaries. Some of his work is more academic than others, but he has some great works on King Arthur that really intersect on social life in the time period you're looking at.
