Or was there less concern about the rise of the United States due to them being primarily a European culture and not necessarily a revisionist power until after World War 2 (and by then it was presumably too late for anyone to do anything about it).
I'd also be interested in hearing if there was a contrast to the perspective of the rise of Japan which was also somewhat contemporary to the rise of the United States.

To summarize, there were definite concerns over an "American Future", although there are definite difference in both economic and cultural terms to the concern with the rise of China in particular. One later commentator pointed out that the earlier notion of Japan taking over the world, such as seen in the Cyberpunk genre, more closely mirrors it, in particular in the aspect of American dominance being "foreshadowed" by the spread of American media culture.
