did they use things that could change their hormones?
im also interested in how trans people were treated in different cultures. was transphobia common or is it a new thing?
Whilst you are waiting for an answer I can link to some earlier threads for you. It can be difficult to clearly recognise transness(?) in societies whose concepts of gender were rather different from today. In this older answer u/heyheymse writes about this difficulty in general when discussing LGBTQ people in Antiquity. There have also been some discussions on ancient people and groups who could be seen as trans, for instance u/bigfridge224 writes about how our sources describe the emperor Elagabalus' identity here, and u/Spencer_A_McDaniel writes about the Galli, a group of self-castrated priests who dressed like women, in this thread about eunuchs. Furthermore last year there was this AMA about trans history with u/khowaga as moderator that you might be interested in, though it focuses more on modern history. I hope this might be helpful!
