There doesn't seem to have been any large German offensive in the closing moments of the war. And, like they point out there, that ending kind of clashes with the original ending. The character you've closely followed is unceremoniously killed and their death is so irrelevant that it isn't remarked on in the report of the day (all quiet). Launching a mass casualty attack is not all quiet on the western front (someone pointed out the title translates to nothing new in the west - same idea, it's used in the same way)!
