I there! I'm currently a college student in Biology, and one of the most useful things it teached me was were to search for information, what sources are good, where to find the sources (Pubmed, Nature, etc...) What I was wondering is what are your references, or sites where you can search articles. And I know this may be a little bit ignorant, but are there scientific papers/journals on history or do historians typicaly just write books?
Ps: Sorry for my english, not my first language and sometimes can be a bit iffy.
JSTOR is Pubmed for historians. You may have access through your institution already but you can currently sign up for a free account which grants you online access to 100 articles a month, which I highly recommend for any amateur historians out there. I would have been completely lost in my undergrad without JSTOR.
Books are more important in history than they are in most sciences. To start with, seek out reputable publishers to make sure you're avoiding questionable or popular histories. Chicago University Press, Harvard University Press, Oxford University Press are all very safe bets.
What's your native language? There's likely to be reputable university presses in your first language too. Don't forget to look for JSTOR articles in your language either.
