Hey everyone, I’m doing a research on the Glyndwr Rising, and I found out that Brittany also supported the Welsh side, didn’t they had a marrieage alliegance with Henry IV already? How the situation ended up this way? Was it about the Breton-Welsh culture-language similiarities?
I found my answer in the Chronicle of Adam of Usk, To oversimplify, Henry wanted to gain assistance by marrying with the widow Jeanne de Navarre, he tought that he could gain the support of both Britanny and Navarre. But Bretones disapproved this marriage and allied with France-Wales againts the Henry IV. So it wasn’t actually about the culture thing, they just didn’t like the attitude of the Henry.
