what did american ww2 combat medics do if someone was injured?

For example if someone on their team was shot in the stomach or something by a lower caliber round what would they do? Do they give them a shot of morphine remove the bullet (idk what they do) and once they are done send them back out if they can still fight? Do they just keep them under cover and monitor them after treatment to make sure they don't pass out or something? What happens if their tools won't be able to save them and they need treatment from a hospital?
