Although I'm not able to answer your question (it being far outside my areas of specialism), I do have a question about your question: what do you mean by "never any mention"? To what context are you referring? General histories of WW2? TV documentaries? Other sources? I think you need to be just a little bit clearer in the framing of your question in order to get an answer that is going to be focused and useful. The more focused, specific, and clear you can make a question on Ask Historians, the easier it is for the community to give answers.
