It seems like a strange but natural outgrowth of the rock culture. Is that where it came from?

So, I'm working on a story, and I know hysteria happened in Europe, but I'm having a hard time getting close approximate years since I need to place his birth date.
When was the witchcraft hysteria in Europe? Did they also burn people at the stake for this? What kind of social system was in place during this time? To help, he's born in France, but I'm not sure if I wanna keep him there.

Specifically, I'm referring to the ones you could find in Austrian or German palaces.

So I've read that after the Black Death, England's population recovered very slowly compared to other countries like France. Is there any truth to this? Anyone know why this occured?

Wikipedia differentiates the Xia, Shang, and Zhou dynasties from Qin and the ones after, where the latter are "Imperial China" and the former are "Ancient China". Why do they do so? What is the difference between "Ancient China" and "Imperial China"? It seems that both consist of absolute monarchies, and while Xia is mythological and Zhou devolved into the Warring States, I don't understand why the boundary between Zhou and Qin is so important that it warrants separating them into larger categories.

I once heard a story about Cortes, who tracked the cycle of eclipses and threatened to ‘turn off’ the sun to initimidate the local sun worshipping population.
How accurate is this story? Have their been any individuals who have used eclipses to intimidate a population?

And if so, are there specific examples?
Did Romanian and German soldiers sharing quarters suddenly begin fighting each other?
Did the news of the switch come as a surprise to all involved?
What was the relationship like between the Soviet Army and the new allied Romanian Army? Were there reprisals carried out against the Romanian soldiers for Stalingrad?

Hey everyone, I didn't know where else to post for this question so I hope this is the right place.
I've been trying to find an English version of Hitler's 1936 opening speech for the Olympics, but unfortunately I couldn't find any subtitles, could anyone please give me a link to said quote or kindly translate it?
The reason for this is because I'm working on a sci-fi story and I would like to make a reference that this was the first speech to be picked up in space (and yes I know, by the time it travels it'll be nothing but garbled static). It's just a random little thing with no significance in said story, but I love references.

Some of the characteristics can't really be known until the microscope comes along (non-nucleated red blood cells), but the superficial ones should be readily apparent. Is there some year in European (or Middle Eastern, or Chinese) history where it's commonly agreed that a bat, whale, elephant, and deer (or other examples) all share common traits that are absent in birds or frogs or snakes? As distinct from the idea that they all share a common lineage (which probably didn't happen until Darwin), of course.

What were the missions they were doing? Did they have to be secretive about their identify and have to be sheep dipped during operations? On paper at the time we know they were supposed to be advisors only, and JFK said they were only authorized to fire unless fired upon, but that's not all they did. For example there is a scene in Ken burns Vietnam documentary episode 2 where green beret Robert Rheault is talking (the man who was the center of the green beret affair for executing a double agent) played over a scene where we presumably see a special ops agent in a gas mask assaulting a village around 1963. Does anybody have more information about that mission?
I have a book about special forces in Vietnam but besides for the phoniex program, training Montagnard's and ARVN in anti insurgency, as well as some operations to disrupt the trail from laos and Cambodia there isn't much info. especially in the early parts of the war before the buildup.
What would be some typical missions and other goals a green beret would accomplishing during say, 1961 or 62?

Many polytheistic religions have gods with their own powers, domains, etc. But I've found very few examples of myths of how one becomes "God of" something, especially for those that are born as gods and not deified.
Additionally, I know that Greek mythology changed over the centuries, and there are many versions of different myths. Did any gods "gain" domains? And if so, were they recognized as having newly gotten them, or were they only newly recognized for always having them?

It seems like swords are commonly associated with the medieval period within Europe and it doesn't really make much sense to me. I'm aware of mordhau, or "murder stroke" as it's sometimes called, but if most of the people you are fighting are armored why not use maces instead?

Did the Confederate States of America have plans to expand into the Caribbean if they had won? Did the U.S. prior to the civil war look to expand into the Caribbean? Was the U.S. southern expansion a cause for the civil war?
I ask because I vaguely remember reading that the U.S. wanted to expand into the Caribbean but the north was afraid that the new Caribbean states would align with the slave states and therefore the north would lose influence.

Wouldn't blocks (or the things you put behind a tire to prevent it rolling back) not be used in cannons? I chose the period of U.S. Civil war to help narrow it down but I think it would apply to many cannons. If you wanted to fire artillery as quickly as possible, why not put some blocks behind the wheels to save time rolling it back to the original firing spot? I only ask because a U.S. Civil war game is adding artillery and there is no blocks present so you have to manually move the cannon forward to stay on target. Maybe they did use these and the game is wrong which seems likely. Thanks in advance.
