Hello fellow historians. I try to learn all aspects of Hellenic society. Is there any good books about Hellenic economy and law? Thanks in advance.

I'm interested in writing a piece of fiction in which characters travel between what is now Saskatchewan/Manitoba and what is now Montana/North Dakota, in the early 1880s. I'm curious about the trade that would have gone on between those places-- I know people did cross over "the medicine line" often, and probably had commercial relationships, but how much of it would have been legal? Would it be legal to sell firearms across the border in those days?

Hello, I am currently wanting to start writing a sort of alternate history story, where world 2 was drug out to the 60s and 70s. The story is going to be told from a German airborne soldiers point of view. Was looking for any sort of citation on how German soldiers acted toward one another, was it formal? Or like a close brotherhood? More than likely will post more questions as I continue my writings. Thanks again

Since WWI was called "The Great War" while it was happening, did those fighting and serving during the Second World War refer to it as "World War II" at that time?

Correct me if I’m wrong but the US and many other world powers have intervened when leaders in other countries are executing, chemically attacking and killing their own people but seemingly did nothing when Joseph Stalin did the same thing, why ?

It seems like the Macedonians and Seleucids both couldn't recover after one major defeat against the Romans (Cynoscephalae and Magnesia, respectively). Why is it that these two old, wealthy, powerful kingdoms seemed so fragile in their conflicts with the Romans?

It’s difficult to find a person who even knows the difference between a nondescript Greek combatant and an literal Spartan. I can’t find any images that contextualize Spartans as being different than Athenians, but being that they were at war with each other there had to be at least some differences.

So, my friend made a joke about Vietnam flashbacks and since the Vietnam War has a reputation of affecting many soldiers with traumatic memories, it got me thinking. I know that soldiers in the Great War suffered from shell shock but have there been any other recorded cases of PTSD from even earlier wars?

There's a somewhat infamous paper that spreads throughout various historical/political subreddits whenever the association between communism & starvation is brought up (joking or otherwise).
Essentially the claim that's made by using this source, is that citizens of the USSR ate just as much food as Americans, and possibly even had a more nutritious diet.
I'll admit that I'm very biased against this claim/narrative, but I would like to get into the truth of the matter if possible. I know that simply claiming that "communism = starvation" is an inaccurate generalization at best, but just by searching for other papers it also seems misleading to simply say that a Soviet citizen ate just as well as an American citizen, especially without regard to context such as how they obtain food, how happy they are with their food (regardless of nutritional value), and how much this truly affects their overall quality of life.
So my questions are as follows:
Did the USSR truly eat just as well as the US?
Is this really a good indicator for the quality of life in either country?

I've been reading "The Making of the Atomic Bomb" by Richard Rhodes and came across a mention of private and semi-private meetings between Niels Bohr and FDR as well as Bohr & Churchill. At each meeting, he implored them to open limited atomic research findings to the world, as he and some of his contemporaries had been inspired by works like H. G. Wells's "The Open Conspiracy" which promoted worldwide scientific equality unbound by borders and politics.
Are there any indications that he got through to either of them at any point, or that either took this suggestion seriously?

I'm curious had operation china show succeeded in its mission to bring supplies to East Africa, would it have made a meaningful contribution to Von Lettow-Vorbeck's war effort? And more then that could it have had any real affect on the outcome of the war?
