From Abigail's letter to John, dated March 31, 1776:
I long to hear that you have declared an independency -- and by the way in the new Code of Laws which I suppose it will be necessary for you to make I desire you would Remember the Ladies, and be more generous and favourable to them than your ancestors. Do not put such unlimited power into the hands of the Husbands. Remember all Men would be tyrants if they could. If perticuliar care and attention is not paid to the Laidies we are determined to foment a Rebelion, and will not hold ourselves bound by any Laws in which we have no voice, or Representation.
That your Sex are Naturally Tyrannical is a Truth so thoroughly established as to admit of no dispute, but such of you as wish to be happy willingly give up the harsh title of Master for the more tender and endearing one of Friend. Why then, not put it out of the power of the vicious and the Lawless to use us with cruelty and indignity with impunity. Men of Sense in all Ages abhor those customs which treat us only as the vassals of your Sex. Regard us then as Beings placed by providence under your protection and in immitation of the Supreem Being make use of that power only for our happiness.
Obviously women were not given anything remotely resembling equal footing in the new US government. Was there any progress at all spurred by the founding or were women's rights mostly unchanged by the revolution? Specifically, did John Adams himself seem to make any earnest attempt to do what Abigail asked of him?
This might be getting too away from the original question but what happened with the possible rebellion Abigail mentioned? She seems to have plainly stated that women need to have a voice in government. Would that have been understood to mean a vote, which they obviously didn't get on any wide scale?

Hi everyone,
I'm doing some family research for someone and cataloguing old family photos. One family member was a Wing Commander with the RAF and I've come across several photos taken, presumably, during WW2.

Eisenhower and Montgomery are very clearly identifiable, but I'm struggling with anyone else in the photos as the highest ranking officer I can see is an Air Vice Marshall.
Can anyone help in identifying anything about these photos? Possible locations, identities or dates are all appreciated.
Apologies in advance if this is unsuitable for this subreddit, but it seemed like the best place to ask. I'm also sorry if my formatting is awful, I'm posting from mobile.

How does a city go from a pile of rubble to a thriving metropolis?
I'm doing my hand at a bit of world-building and am trying to create a parallel city to Hiroshima, but from digging around there's not much in specifics I can find.
Was Martial aw implemented by the occupation? How were jobs distributed when there was no infrastructure? How long did it take Hiroshima to receive funds for rebuilding from the occupation, and what did its government look like during that time?
Really, any in-depth sources would suffice. Thanks in advance!

I've been watching a lot of The Twilight Zone and have noticed they all have tiny, little waists that can't be fashion alone. So I'm wondering if it was popular in the 60's to cinch waists? Even if it was just those in the limelight.

Despite periodically portraying themselves as native Pharaohs, Muslim sultans or Nationalist despots, every single person who ruled Egypt from the deposition of Nectanebo II in 343 BC to the revolution in 1952 self-identified primarily as descending from elsewhere, whether from Macedon or from the Hejaz or Kurdistan or even far off Albania. Was there a strong nationalist or anti-Arabist response in support of the revolution?

Hi there, I'm currently doing an internal for Level 1 History and its on The Treaty of Versailles. I have to write about Hitler and Clemenceau's Point of view on the treaty. I'm a bit stuck on both, I'm finding it a bit difficult to understand Hitler. Since he wasn't a German politician when the treaty was signed then how was he affected < 1922. (Seems like a stupid question but stupid questions come from stupid people)

Trying to write a realistic fantasy world and I'm wondering what the difference between a princedom and a kingdom is? Is it just the name, or are there actual tangible differences? Also are there any real-life cases of princedoms I can draw from? I seem to remember there being one or two but I can't remember where.

I've read the book by the Compte de Ségur who said it was Russian criminals who were freed on condition they burn down Moscow at a pre-arranged signal. I am currently reading a book by Geoffrey Hosking on the history of Russia which casts doubt on it. Which version is more accurate? I realize the Compte de Ségur would be biased but I tend to find his version quite believable.

I read it had to do with fear of death, as lying in bed was very similar to lying in a coffin.

Was it exactly the same but with different names or did the Romans assimilate and co-opt the Greek gods into their religious cannon?

They are the thing.
