Edit, I just had the thought that maybe this is too broad to get much traction, and would like to add that responses focusing on just one nation would also definitely be answers. I don't know exactly what the response rules are regarding answering just a part of a question, but it might be hard to do justice to NATO overall, and I'm more interested in how individual countries reacted anyway.
(So originally I asked this as a follow-up to the response about Labour's dramatic victory in 1945 UK, and in the brief-ish reply it was suggested that I post it as it's own topic. I also just saw this poster on /r/propagandaposters that made me want to expand it to the rest of NATO generally, in addition to the UK. )
It doesn't seem to have been as drastically demonized within the rest of NATO as it was in US, which still suffers wicked strong, irrational, anti-socialist sentiment (I say irrational to contrast what's common rhetoric/opinion to actual criticism of socialism and its implementation). For instance, much of Europe proudly declares it's socialism, to much success in a lot of cases, something that before recently would summarily tank any US politicians career before it began.
However, the UK was the third nuclear power, iirc, followed soon after by France, so it must have been affected somehow just because of the nuclear spectre. On top of that--as was pointed out in the reply that prompted me to post this--was that the UK (and other NATO countries) were totally dependent on the US after the war, and needed to acquiesce, at least in part, to it's foreign policy.
Still, it seems to me based on my (outside) perspective of the general European sentiment on socialism and social programs that there just isn't such a taboo around the whole thing there. Was there just less conflating (stalin's) communism with more general socialism, or was it something deeper? Or am I misguided in my assessment of the feelings in europe about european socialism?
Edit 2, Also, I know NATO isn't only European countries, those were just the socialist examples that seem to run counter to US sentiments.

I've been trying to find more info on the crimes the Optimates were accusing Caesar of, and they must have been big or else he wouldn't have been scared to lose immunity. If Caesar hadn't openly rebelled against the republic and stepped down from the position of Governor of Gaul to run for Consul what might have happened to Caesar?

Just thought about it. If not, I'm sure they would be deaf by 30.

Was the historical text of the Bible really written in Aramaic originally or was it originally written in the Koine Greek?
I'm asking from a historical perspective--what evidence is there that the Bible was written in Aramaic?
Edit: meant to ask only about the New Testament per the Greek. Sorry!

I have read several places that Leon Blum's Popular Front govt coalition declared neutrality because it was afraid that it might spark civil war inside France. Where was the justification for this belief, and how real was it?
I'm finding it quite difficult to navigate the alphabet soup of parties, personalities, and conflicts existing within France during the late Third Republic. I'm familiar with the broad narrative...formation and fall of the PF, appeasement, Daladier...but looking for further help. Thanks.

I recently just realized that there were shield that were made of wicker.
Besides the fact that making or repairing such a shield must have been a big hassle, I was wondering how did it actually hold up.
Would you say that it was as tough, less or tougher than wooden shields?

Despite being a country of some four million, becoming independent in 1991, and fighting a major war from 1991 to 1995, Croatia came in third in the 1998 FIFA World Cup, and has made an appearance in all subsequent World Cups, bar 2010. And they seem to be doing quite well right now!
Why is a small, newly independent, postwar country so good at football/soccer? If this is a product of Yugoslavian sports policy, why hasn't it rubbed off on any of the other successor states' national teams?

First of all, Thank you for taking the time to read and hopefully answer this question.
I'm working on a board game that is trying to simulate 17th century age of sail combat, but I was wondering how the wind effects the sails of one of these types of ships and if it like little sailboats of modern day. Going to ask this in a specific way which might seem strange but it has been what I was thinking for the game mechanic so please bear with me: A Carrack is facing True north. How much would the wind hurt or hinder a ships movement at every 8 point of rose compass in it's attempt to head true north?
I ask this question this way as it is the core mechanic behind the game, as being able to move against or with the wind is important for being able to maneuver.
Thank you for your consideration.

I haven't read the book, just an article. Is his interpretation of pre-colonial Aboriginal life strongly supported by evidence? Is the work a game-changer to our understanding of Australian history?

The title says it all, I’m working on a board game modeled around this time period but I can’t represent every valuable commodity in game, so I’m focusing on the six most significant ones!
