I've heard that the Byzantine Empire would have called themselves Romans and that "Byzantine" is a modern retroactive name for them. But what about people outside of the Byzantine Empire? Would foreign countries have recognized them as Roman or would they have a different name?

So okay... I am a proud Lithuanian and I love the history of my country. As you probably know, Lithuania and Poland made a Commonwealth in 1569. It was a great and powerful state in Europe.
More and more, I see the PLC being referred to as just Poland. It really angers and annoys me, because it almost makes it look like Poland occupied Lithuania. Poland basically gets all the glory too.
Now don't get me wrong. I totally agree that Poland did take a more important role in the Commonwealth than Lithuania, but still, it wasn't like we wanted them to do that and we also had quite a lot of important tasks and moments. The PLC consisted of 2 big states - Poland and Lithuania. We both had some independence from each other and not everything was the same in both states.
SO how incorrect is calling the PLC just Poland? Is it a very big mistake or is it almost correct? Should we keep reminding those, who call it Poland, to call it the PLC?
Thank you in advance.

In "Malta: A Traveller's Anthology" by Deborah Manley (link), she lists "400 adventurers from Mytheline" among the Ottoman Empire's forces at the Siege of Malta in 1565.
I can't find anything about Mytheline online. But I'm curious where it was, and who these "adventurers" were -- I assume they were mercenaries.

It seems that thin swords like rapiers were lighter and could still slash through flesh by their sharpness.

There is a woman that says:
'Transgender Mania’ is a Symptom of West's Cultural Collapse
that the rise of transgenderism in the West is a symptom of decadence and cultural collapse
"And I found in my study that history is cyclic, and everywhere in the world you find this pattern in ancient times: that as a culture begins to decline, you have an efflorescence of transgender phenomena. That is a symptom of cultural collapse.

Bit of an odd question I guess, but I am trying to work out what night glasses in the late 19th century would have been.

I've been learning a lot about the Renaissance lately, and there's no doubt that the rise of financial institutions, such as the Medici bank, was such an important part of the Renaissance. My question is: What prevented these institutions from being successful prior to the 14th century? I know the church had usury laws, but were there other laws that halted financial progress prior to the Medicis? Any sources would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for the answer!

Say Hans is driving a Panzer 4 from where it was made in Germany to the Western Front. Would he drive it at the full 26 miles an hour or would he drive it at an agreed upon sustained speed? I'd imagine full speed would only exaggerate any reliability problems with the engine/suspension.
