I've found a couple places that claim Jim Jones sold monkeys, but no interviews or anything, just statements that he did. Can anybody confirm/deny that he did that? Seems a little strange.

Dictators seem just like a monarchy, usually their eldest son inherits the country and so on. And they have the powers of monarchs back before they were all destroyed.

I hear all the time about how we won the vast majority of the battles we fought, and I know that the U.S. lost a handful to the Japanese, but I can't seem to find anywhere if we outright lost anything to the Germans!?

The Moche Culture of Peru is perhaps best-known for their remarkable and iconic pottery, which often takes sexually explicit forms. Why were sexual motifs common in Moche pottery; did the design of these objects and vessels hold symbolic or ritualistic meaning in Moche Culture? Or were stylized sexual images simply a commonly utilized design element amongst ancient Moche potters?

I recently finished the book "Looming Tower" which chronicled the developments before Al-Qaeda's attacks on the World Trade Center, the attack on the USS Cole, and also the attack on the US embassy in Kenya. One frequent narrative from several sources in Yemen is that the US should expect such attacks for "occupying" Muslim holy lands. Can anyone shed light on what this meant? Did it refer to US support for Israel? The US presence in Saudi Arabia during the First Gulf War? What?

Some dude gets assassinated which devolves into a bunch of countries having to honor agreements they’d made over previous decades causing a war where nobody is actually mad at each other about anything?

You are rolling your eyes right now because this is seems like tinfoil hat shit, and I get that. I feel that as well. However, please try and answer my question honestly instead of labelling me a Nazi, because this is something that is genuinely bothering me.
This guy claims that newspapers were citing the 6 million jews death toll/suffering figure before the Holocaust. I doubt the reliability of the sources, but the fact that there are screenshots of these alleged newspapers, and I can't really tell if they are edited, leaves me scratching my head. I don't believe that the Holocaust was fake, I know it happened. However, this make me ever-so-slightly doubt the 6 million death toll that is commonly cited. Are these newspaper photos real or not? Is this guy right about the 6 million jews figure being cited before the Holocaust occurred?

I'm looking for a historian to explain to me where African-American names come from. They have the "Le" "La " anfld De prefixes. Where do these come from. Your answers are much appreciated.

Looking at it today it seems pretty obvious America would win, but I would like to see through the eyes of the American public at the time, American military and politicians. Were they positive they would win, like "this is a mere formality"? Or there were fear among them, like the outcome was far to being decided and there were a risk of defeat?

The UK hasn't had any sort of revolution since the 1600s, and it successfully weathered the storm of the revolutions of the 1800s and 1900s. What's so unique about the UK that enabled it to survive despite the revolutions gripping the rest of the world?

So I've just finished of a fantastic series called peaky blinders for the second time and I'm hoping somebody could give me a detailed rundown of the period mentioned in the title? I was never really taught it in school and after re-watching the show I realised I have no idea what a lot of the terms they use are (white army, red army, bolsheviks etc..) I don't think I even really know what a communist is. Could anyone shed some light on this time period and all the party's involved?

Did the US ever come close to nuclear war during the Eisenhower years. You alway hear about the Truman's other close calls and Kennedy's but Eisenhower's years seem quiet is this because we had a general president that was used to dealing with the likes of de Gaulle and Stalin and churchill and really understood the military situation on the ground. Truman was famous for getting into with his generals and Kennedy.

I'm curious how the cultures of the Indian subcontinent, Arabian peninsula, and horn of Africa evolved and interacted with one another and the broader world. These regions were always footnotes in most of my history books growing up, while the Mediterranean got chapters. Are there any comprehensive books out there on the subject, or would my time be better spent reading individual books about the respective regions? Thanks!
