It seems like it was a very dangerous job. Were they promised great riches? Did they get what they were promised? Do we have any accounts of the lives of rank-and-file soldiers after their conquering days?

I've recently read through most of Ian Kershaws biography of Hitler part 1: Hubris. From what i understand The Nazi party did the following:
.Used the Reichstag's fire as a pretext to pass the enabling act.
.Arrested all the social democrats and communists in order to remove opposition to them.
.Combined the powers of Reich president and Reich chancellor in order to make Adolf Hitler the absolute ruler of Germany.
I don't understand the full picture though. I think this is because i don't understand much about how the Wiemar government worked , what the checks and balances were, and why other parties helped Hitler pass legislation like the enabling act in the Reich-stag.

Looking at the decline of the Spanish Empire it seems one of the most important factors for it happening was the absolute decentralization there was, which kept prompting revolts both in the colonies and the peninsula, aswell as the Netherlands, draining Spain's coffers constantly. So why was this? Other empires like France and Britain seemed to be able to consolidate power and avoid these issues, what made Spain different?

I was listening to the song 'Good ol Rebel' which is a (purposely over-the-top, to be fair) lament of the loss in the war, and includes a line about hating the 'striped banner'.
It got me thinking, because I've been to the south, and American flags (along with 'God bless America' stickers and other such symbols) are everywhere. I can't imagine this was the case in the immediate aftermath of the civil war, when federal troops were occupying the south and the US flag must have been seen as the standard of the enemy.
Did it have to wait until the generation that had fought the war had largely died off or at least aged out of public life?

I understand that Timur was able to effectively combat the Delhi sultante and destroy it. What happened in the meantime before Babur came to india? Did Timur leave India after sacking Delhi? Was there still any pre Timur governance in Delhi when Babur came?

I thought about this a while back. Who cleaned up all the bodies of historic battles? It seems like a lot of work for the busy military to do at the time.
We’re the bodies even cleaned up or were they washed away? Are there still remnants of the battles having taken place?

As far as I know, the current scholarship sees the hoplite phalanx as a late development, only emerging around the end of the sixth century BC. However, I was reading an article -"Traders, Pirates, Warriors: The Proto-History of Greek Mercenary Soldiers in the Eastern Mediterranean" by Nino Luraghi- that argues that Greeks were serving as mercenaries earlier than previously thought, in the late eighth century, and that these mercenaries were fighting in phalanxes. They argue that the Amathus bowl from Cyrpus is the earliest depiction of a Greek phalanx, with overlapping shields and interlocking legs illustrating close order formation. How does this evidence fit into the historiography of the phalanx?

I plan on doing my history undergraduate dissertation / thesis on cultural differences in the depictions of the Holocaust focusing specifically on Hollywood, Israel and Germany.
The two main films I'm going to focus on are Schindlers List and The Shoah.
Can you guys recommend any good German films or any other historically accurate holocaust films.
Thanks!
