I was sorting through my parents storage when I came across a box labeled as "rocks". I opened this up and my dad tells me about all these arrowheads and stone tools my dad and grandfather found in Libya during the early 1960s. There are dozens of arrowheads, scrapers, awls, petrified ostrich eggs, and mortar and pestles. My dad was pretty young at the time, but he recalls being deep in the Saharan desert and them finding all these stone arrowheads and tools in the sand. He suspects they came from a battle field and are obviously very old.
Does anyone have any idea what age these could be from? How common are artifacts like this? From what I can tell, they are ancient and resemble relics I've seen in museums. I'm not sure what to do with them at this point and any information would be appreciated.

People as in Men. Good examples of this in popular culture is depictions of Vikings(sic) or Medieval inspired fantasy like Game of Thrones.

Has the USA ever had a General or Admiral taken prisoner by a foreign nation? If so, how did they happen to be taken prisoner, and what was their treatment like?

I've been reading a bit about Japanese industrialization and am somewhat surprised by how quickly it took place and how easily to Japanese defeated China in the first Sino-Japanese War. One particular part that stood out to me is willingness for most clans to sacrifice their land ownership for government positions.

I was visiting the Topography of Terror museum in Berlin today, and in one of the exhibits was a wall with the photographs of those arrested/questioned for their political leanings. E.g. communist, social democrat, etc. However there were a few with European Union written instead other political affiliations. Can anyone give me more details about it?

Do we have any record of the magnetic compass' history of use? Do we know who first hypothesized that you could navigate using it? And were there any points earlier in history where someone attempted to prove that it could serve a practical purpose besides divination?

I've seen Kurlander cited here a couple of times, and the reviews I've seen online in newspapers etc are positive. However a book about Nazis and the occult makes me wary that it's going to be sensationalist speculation.
Does anyone know if this book is actually reliable? Or where I can find reviews to check the reliability of this book?

I asked this the other day and didn't get much of a response, so I'll try again...
And maybe "nickname" isn't the right word. "Mascot" maybe? Why are North American teams typically known as the "Springfield _______s" whereas outside of North America, particularly in soccer/football, clubs are typically known without a nickname, like "Springfield F.C.", or "Springfield Rugby Club"?
I know that some Association football clubs do have nicknames, but you usually don't hear them. The wiki page tells me that Manchester United are nicknamed the "Red Devils" but that mascot wasn't adopted until the 1960s, and you rarely see a "Manchester United Red Devils" headline. Whereas, North American teams like the New York Giants and Boston Red Sox have been referred to like that since the early 1900s, at least, and are quite often referred to in headlines as simply the "Giants" or "Red Sox".
Has this always been the case? Why do clubs outside North America, particularly football/soccer clubs, not use team nicknames to the same degree as they are used in baseball, basketball, hockey, and American and Canadian football? Or put another way, why are team nicknames used so extensively in North America unlike elsewhere? What is the history of this tradition?

As far as we know leather armor didn't exist and yet in popular culture myth of leather armor as cheap armor for average foot soldier was born. Historians however have evidence that people who couldn't afford mail or full plate were using gamberson (I know knights also used it under plate or mail).
So were myth of leather armor was born? Games? Movies? Somewhere else?

You can see the quote here
"In outer space you develop an instant global consciousness, a people orientation, an intense dissatisfaction with the state of the world, and a compulsion to do something about it. From out there on the Moon, international politics look so petty. You want to grab a politician by the scruff of the neck and drag him a quarter of a million miles out and say, 'Look at that, you son of a bitch.'"
I can't find an original source for it, the internet is flooded with stupid quote sites with no sourcing to a book or speech or NASA transcript or anything. If anyone could point me to the original source for this or any further context around it that would be awesome, thank you

Thinking about a debate I had with my family over breakfast. My dad was watching a movie about Nazi occupation of France. My mother said "oh it's a holocaust movie" while my father said, "no, it's a World War II movie." What separates actions made by the Nazis in the theater of war and their actions in carrying out the Holocaust?

Recently read an article that went a bit more in-depth about the cleaning day that mentioned stuff like nose hair removal, hair bleaching with strong soap, removing dirt from nails and more.
This made me wonder if thralls followed at least parts of their owners saturday rituals.
